EMERGENCY DENTAL CARE IN TAMPA

Have an emergency? Do you have tooth or jaw pain? Call today and make an appointment. We’d love to help. Waiting to seek care is often costly and painful. Dentists often have to be detectives to find out the cause of your pain, since oral pain can be misleading. Dr. Churchill’s philosophy is to get to the source of the problem by eliminating the simple things first, a cost savings you, the patient.

DENTAL CARE FOR CHILDREN

We treat patients of all ages. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends establishing your child with a dentist at one year of age. This stems from an increase of dental decay between 2 and 3 years of age. The dental treatment received at our office depends on the behavior and needs of the child. We work with the temperament of the child and adjust treatment accordingly. We do not medicate children.

We are a handicap accessible dental practice.

WHAT TO EXPECT ON YOUR FIRST VISIT TO CHURCHILL DENTISTRY

Your first visit to Churchill Dentistry of Carrollwood typically consists of a full examination, a series of x-rays, and a dental teeth cleaning. We ask that you bring your previous x-rays, if available. If you are in good oral health and lack periodontal problems, a regular cleaning can be performed the same day. An oral cancer exam is done as well.

Frequently Asked Questions

I brush and floss, so aren’t my teeth okay?

It is important to know that brushing and flossing alone will not keep problems at bay. Many people mistakenly believe that if it doesn't hurt, their teeth are fine. But many problems like gum disease and decay don’t cause pain until the late stages. That’s why it’s important to visit your dentist regularly. Decay lurks larger under the visible surface-that’s why dentists take x-rays and why when you look at your teeth, they look fine. Sometimes, a person feels nothing until their tooth breaks or their face swells. Untreated infections can lead to serious complications and a costly trip to the hospital. Remember, by the time you feel pain or your tooth breaks, a substantial amount of damage has already occurred.

Why does my tooth hurt?

Pain is usually a lagging indicator, meaning that by the time you notice a problem, a lot of damage has already occurred. Severe dental pain is often caused by the nerve from inside your tooth or an infection and needs to be addressed by a dentist. Patients often come to the dentist, when they are in pain. However, treatment is usually more costly at this stage and the options are limited. Coming in for a yearly check-up and x-rays can help you to fix your tooth at an early stage, when it is smaller and less expensive to fix.

Why did my tooth break?

Teeth are living, or vital, structures. They have their own blood supply and nerve supply, below the enamel. A cavity starts in the enamel, often as a pinhole, and gets larger once it enters the softer part of the tooth called the dentin, eroding the tooth from the inside, making it hollow. One day you bite down and the stronger outer structure caves in. Keep in mind, as the cavity gets larger, it also gets closer to the center of the tooth, where the nerve is, causing pain and sometimes leading to a root canal (removing the nerve) or an extraction. Early detection is key!
